Geax Mezcal 29 Inch MTB Tire

The Geax Mezcal works well as a rear tire. It sets up easily tubeless. Rolling resistance is low and the tire is light for a 2.1, about 540 grams. The casing is supple and yet reasonably tough, able to ward of the occasional sharp rock without cutting. Traction is more than adequate for a low knobsemi slick tire, and it drifts predictably at it's cornering limits.

I would describe the Mexcal as a slightly lower volume, faster version of a WTB Nanoraptor, or a more rugged version of a Maxxis Aspen. A great choice XC or endurance racing applications where the terrain isn't to heavily infested with sharp rocks. I'm pleased with it, and will purchase it again.

I never thought a tire could make much difference, but I was wrong. I ride a local park trail after work. It is lumpy asphalt with occasional patches of mud or sand. There's no telling what you will find after a hard rain. I have ridden the same 24 mile trail for three years recording all my rides. Since I started using the Geax Mezcal on my 29er, I have recorded my 7 fastest speeds ever within the first six week stretch. And the other rides are pretty near the top. Generally, I believe the tires out-perform the original set by 0.7 to 1.0 mph. Quite impressive! The way it is cut also allows me to be more aggressive in the corners. Given the mix of traffic on the trail (pedestrians, joggers, baby carriages, etc.), I believe that this tire allows me to hit maximum speed without sacrificing control and maneuverability.
