Only recently available to the US market, Astute saddles are handmade in Italy and inspired by the country's illustrious history of automobile design. They've been developed by a team of designers and craftspeople in Veneto, a region boasting a 40-year history of excellence in saddle making. Each model is constructed using an entirely new, patented manufacturing process, so the resulting designs are simultaneously lightweight, stylish, and comfortable.
The anticipated Skycarb model is Astute's top-shelf offering, pairing a gram-shaving full carbon shell, and carbon rails with a minimalist yet supportive shape. Like the rest of the Astute line, the Skycarb SR features the patented dual shell design that captures the saddle's microfiber cover, attaching it to the shell without the need for heavy and less durable glue and staples. This means you get a saddle that not only looks better from every vantage point, but also weighs less and lasts longer.
The ultra-thin carbon fiber inner shell features a precisely engineered "open u" shape that positions the padding for maximum comfort where it's needed most without increasing the overall size or weight of the saddle. The "tri-density" cushioning is a combination of two different density pads, plus a third "memory foam" layer, each fused into precise position using the dual shell design.
For even more comfort, Astute uses the Shock Pad Absorber System (SPAS), a design which consists of special pads placed at the attachment point of the rails to the shell, helps to dampen shocks and vibrations, eliminating friction between the rails and the shell and helping to maintain the saddle's stability and support. If you are looking for one mean, performance oriented saddle, the Skycarb brings it.
The Skycarb SR features carbon fiber rails and is available in Black/Black. It weighs 158g.

Beautifully made saddles feels as good as it looks
I'm a weight weenie. I have been trying to find a light weight saddle that was actually comfortable. Almost every saddle I tried felt like I was sitting on a rock after 20 miles or so. I was ready to give up and just go with something 50 or so grams heavier that I was comfortable with until I read about this one on Bike Rumor.
When this saddle arrived, I was really impressed with the build quality. Everything is meticulously finished - even the underside. The shell isn't super stiff, but felt fine on the bike. The padding is a surprisingly plush for a saddle this light. I've now been riding it for about a month and have done a number of 4-5 hour rides without noticing any discomfort.
My only minor gripe is that the saddle is fairly flat on top (no tilt up at the very back) so I found I was sliding too far back on the saddle during hard climbs. It felt a lot like a Fizik Antares (although not as hard). I generally prefer a saddle with a little more curved shape like the Fizik Aliante. That said, this is a very comfortable saddle.
