I have the Schwalbe Marathon studded snow tires on my son's bike, and I've tried the Innova pos on my road bike. There is nothing to compare to the hakkapelittas. They are simply the best. I've been riding on this current pair for three winters. My summertime commute genearlly takes about 28 to 30 minutes, and with these tires I plan on 35 to 40 minutes with considerably more effort. I keep one bike set up with these tires all through the winter so that if I get clear day, I can ride slicks. They are like riding velcro. You have to pay for the added traction, and the price is paid in rolling resistance. I genreally keep them at about 60 psi, but will lower that in aheat beat to around 30 psi if there is alot of ice. THese are good on my single speed fixed gear set up, plwed roads, and ice. I still don't have enough leg to ride in anything past about 2-3 inches of snow. These tires woiuld max out on that. One reason I did end up getting these tires,, is because of they have the lowest clearance, and get them to fit on my road and track framesets. We are talking 1-mm of clearance between the sides of the tires and the brakes, but they fit. Sweet. Don't seem to get any flats. After three years, I am only missing one stud. The studs just do not wear down. The tungsten carbide is that resistant to wear. I estimate I have about 1500 miles on this pair, with a little sidewall cracking, but nothing to cry about. Hakkapelitta--this is cool Iooked up the wierd name with all these consonants. These tires are made in Finland. Hakkapelitta was the battle cry of the finnish army in the 1400's who invented the use of horses to collapse the lines of their adversaries. They'd run their horses over the tops of the foot solidiers of the opposing army, and then cry Hakkpelitta hack up the pedestrians as they did so, striking terror into their adversaries. Much I am sure the rebel yell did in the US civil war, and the kuwati victory cry does in the middle east.
Please do your best to get them back in stock.
