Easton meticulously tested the top cranksets on the market in their goal of making a crank with the greatest stiffness for its weight. According to their testing, Easton succeeded with Dura Ace coming in a bit stiffer but with about an 80 gram weight difference. Much of the stiffness and weight savings is thanks to CNT™ composite construction in which carbon is blended with Carbon Nanotubes which Easton claims are the lightest and stiffest structures in existence. The EC90 crankset is also incredibly durable surviving a fatigue test of over 500,000 cycles which Easton claims to be five times that of the nearest competitor. Taperwall™ construction uses very gradual and smooth butting for greater thickness at points of greatest stress without adding excessive weight.
