Continental Grand Prix 4000 S

I have nothing but high praise for the 4000 S. Top of the list is feel. This is coming from a tubular fanatic. This tire rolls and handles awesome. They are long wearing and cut resistant. I ride with a group of Schwalbe nuts, but I am the one without flats all season. The route map doesn't have where the township decided to drop new chip and seal last week. My tires don't show any gravel cuts.

I have put 1300 miles on this first set of 4000S. Was going to swap front and rear but there is no need for that yet. Front still has the center bead still there and the rear bead is gone but no where near worn.

I find my Nag rides the best at 118 rear 110 front. These are pretty sure footed in the wet also. Go caught in rain and 3 weekends in a row we have been fogged in in the NW Chicago area in the morning. No slipping even on an 18% climb in Bull Valley.

I'm sold. I have ZERO cuts on these and I have ran over some glass, large gravel, miles of chip and seal, miles of chip before they have sealed and some other stuff that made noise once I ran over it and you're waitting for a flat and NOTHING.

I have also come to love JUST BLACK TIRES with a small white logo.

If you are on the fence go for it. GREAT all around tire.

25 to 30 years ago I use to ride only tubular sew ups with silk casings for the outstanding ride quality. Modern clinchers are so much better. As a transition I rode VeloFlex open clinchers and like the ride quality but found them not wearing well and getting little cuts in the tread casing from sharp objects in the road. I switched to Conti in the 4000 S and have found these the best tires I have ever rode. Very round, Very smooth, Low rolling resistance, great grip on dry roads in hard corners, and long wearing. This Chili compound rubber is outstanding. This tire has the flat resistant belt that really works so I can run Conti's lightest super sonic race tube inside safely for training and greater road feel for a total weight of 260 grams per tiretube combo.

Love 'em! I'm a Michelin ProRace3 fan and the new GP 4000 S's have improved cornering and ride comfort compared to the old Conti GP's. If you like the Michelin's but you want to try something else for what ever reason give the GP 4000 S's a try.

I'm a big guy - 6' and 200 and soon to eclipse 5000 miles on the pair on my Bianchi. The wear indicators show 12 worn tread. This is my second season on them and I think I'll make it through next year as well.

If you are undecided on which tire to buy, try these.

I just got a set of the 4000S. Put 500 miles on them in the past 2 weeks. I don't want to like them, but I do like them. I loved pro Race 2's also. I swithed 2 years ago from the race 2's to Fortezza Tri Comp because they offered a white wall and 145 psi. Those were ok but felt slow and got very square after 1200 miles.

The GP 4000S are surprisingly smooth I weigh 160, Ride a C-50 with Ksyrium's SL3.

Front at 105 Rear at 113 and the ride is pretty **** good. Rolling resistance is really good and grip on turns excellent. I have ridden over some neighbor crap, glass, gravel and have no visible cuts. Also did about 300 miles of northern illinois farm road chip and seal with no problems.

I can already see that the rear tire has started to wear but barely. The Front still has the excess rubber line still down the middle. I'll put 500 more on in the next 2 weeks and give a new opinion. I wanted to hate these so I would try the Open Corsa EVO for the ride and the white stripe offered. But with the durability and ride of the conti's, I may be sticking with these.

Tried Mich Pro Race and then Conti GP and 4 season. This is a step up from the GP4000 in my opinion. Great wear, super smooth roll and great traction I live in the NW and we get rain as well as good mountains. I like the wear indicator, easy to see when to swap front to rear to maximize tire wear. My bike is a Cannondale SuperSix and gets riden hard. These tire are the best I have riden on. The 4000S will be my choice when I ride across the US again in 2010.

Have had the tires for a month or so 100 miles per week and have had no problems. Ride on country and city roads. Have ridden on them on flats, rolling hills and in the mountains. Have had no problems even when descending on winding mountain roads at 40 mph.

Mounting was a breeze.

Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for great performance.

Very impressed with this tire, after a season of riding it on widely varying surfaces, here in Western Oregon. Ride quality is on par with the Vittoria CX Open which seems to be the 'gold standard for many riders, though my ... doesn't agree, and just a notch below the ride quality of the Mich Pro 3.

Durability of the 4000S appears to be quite good--this is the only 'race' tire that I can ride on gravel without flinching. No casing cuts, and no flats.

Wear is better than either the Vitt CX or Mich Pro 3.

For real-world conditions, the 4000S is tops excellent durability, and ride quality.

I ride 100 to 130 miles per week on Texas roads.

Recently switched from Gator Skins to the 4000 S.

The tire performes well and is reasonably puncture resistance BUT, and it's a very BIG BUT, I ruined both tires in less than a month due to cuts on the sidewalls. I have ridden the same roads for months on Gator Skins and never cut a sidewall. So yes it's a good tire for "clean roads" if such a thing exists, but, this tire needs major improvement in the sidewall.
