Having a little trouble making sense of all the bicycle light options available at BikeTiresDirect? Wondering what the difference is, really, between halogen, LED, and HID lamps, and which of them you ought to get?

Your first option is lights with halogen bulbs. Halogen lights were standard for many years; halogen bulbs are those ones with the tiny filament strung between to towers. The bulbs are cheap and durable, and produce a lot of light, but since they produce so much heat in addition to light, they're not incredibly efficient and will chew through batteries faster than other options.
 The Light & Motion Solo Logic Light is a great light, bright halogen option, with three power settings to give your batteries a rest when you're on well-lit streets and light your way when you're not.
LEDs, meanwhile, don't produce nearly as much heat, and are even more durable and cheap than halogen bulbs. While not quite as bright as halogen bulbs, with the right lenses or by clustering several LEDs together, they can produce a good amount of light.
