2008 Amgen Tour of California
At BikeTiresDirect, we're kicking 2008 off in the best way possible, with sunshine and bike racing. The 2008 Amgen Tour of California is slated as America's premier cycling event, and we'll be there spreading around some great deals on the equipment you need to make your season a success. Look for the BikeTiresDirect tent at the HealthNet Lifestyle festival near the finish of each stage.
Started in 2006, the Amgen Tour of California has quickly become the nation's premier cycling event. The fabulous weather of California and early season scheduling makes for an attractive race for domestic and European pro teams alike. Previous winners Floyd Landis and Levi Leipheimer have used the Tour as a springboard to Tour de France success, while smaller American-based teams see the race as their most important of the season.
The UCI, cycling's governing body, has given the Amgen Tour of California a 2.HC rating, the highest ranking available. This guarantees a star studded line-up of American and European based professionals racing flat-out. This is no early season training ride. 2007 saw reigning World Champion Paolo Bettini take his first ever stage win on American soil. Overall winner Levi Leipheimer went on to finish 3rd in the 2007 Tour de France.
The parcours of the 2008 Amgen Tour of California is set to showcase the spectacular scenery of California coastline and wine country. The BikeTiresDirect crew will be stationed at the finish of each stage offering our everyday great prices on cycling equipment along with some Tour-of-California-only surprises.
