LED Bike Lights
Bicycle lights are a necessity if you're riding after dusk or before dawn, many states require them by law. Be seen and be safe! If you're riding on trails or unlit roads, or participating in 24-hour endurance races, quality bike lighting is even more important.

'Blinky' Lights
For battery powered LED lights, our recommendations are very simple: Planet Bike Beamer 5 LED Head Light and Planet Bike Blinky Superflash Tail Light. These are the two lights everyone, from the occasional commuter to the fastest racer, should own. Both of them are extremely bright, lightweight and get great battery life. Yes there's cheaper lights out there, there's also more expensive ones with more features, but these are the best battery powered lights we can find. This recommendation comes with one caveat: Battery powered 'blinky' lights are designed to ensure that you are seen, rather than provide light for the rider to see. Lights powered by rechargeable battery packs are the best option for riders looking to see as well as be seen.
Lighting Systems
Riders maximum visibility, avid commuters, endurance racers and the most adventurous cyclists will be best served by an LED system powered by a rechargeable battery pack. These systems provide for the rider to be seen, as well as plenty of light to negotiate tricky terrain on the darkest nights. This category of lights is divided based on the type of battery powering the system, Nickle Metal Hydride batteries or Litihium Ion. NiMH batteries are heavier and have quicker burn time. LI batteries are the lightest, top-of-the-line innovation in bike lights. They are light, with quick charge and long burn times. Of course, LI powered systems run more expensive than NiMH setups.
Light & Motion Stella 200L Light and DiNotte Lighting 200L-LI-4C Light are great Lithium Ion powered systems. Light & Motion 2008 Stella 120 Light is a NiMH set up.
One of our favorite light manufacturers Dinotte also makes light systems powered by rechargeable AA Batteries. While these have much less burn time than LI or NiMH systems, they are not quite as bright, nor do they burn as long, but they run off a familiar power source that can easily be replaced.
